Juan Carlos Palma Lopez is a highly awarded International and National Girls Artistic Gymnastics Coach and a former Chilean National Men’s Gymnastics Team Member. Resume WizardHe has a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and moved to the United States with his wife and three children in September 2004. He currently coaches 20 girls in Women's Artistic Gymnastics in Woodbridge, VA.

Juan Carlos Palma is passionate about USAG's Talents Opportunity Program (ToPS) and has accompanied a gymnasts to the December ToPS camp in Hutsville, TX for seven consecutive years; his own daughter, Catalina Palma has made the ToPS National "A" Team three consecutive years.

He began working for Excalibur Gymnastics in Virginia Beach, VA, in 2004 and trained their Compulsory Team members. He also escorted his daughter, nine year old, Catalina Palma to the 2004 ToPS test where she placed on the 2004 National ToPS “Diamond” Team. In 2005, Apollo Gymnastics in Woodbridge, VA opened its door to its amazing gymnastics facility and offered Juan Carlos an opportunity to move into the Northern Virginia area. In 2005, Juan Carlos again escorted Catalina Palma to the National ToPS testing center where she was then not only placed on the 2005 National ToPS “A” Team but also ranked #1 in the Nation, an achievement he and Catalina are very proud of. The following year, Juan Carlos escorted Catalina Palma and Emily George, they both were placed on the 2006 National ToPS “A” team. In 2007, Juan Carlos escorted Catalina Palma, who placed again on the 2007 National ToPS “A” Team and Rylie McKe who placed on the 2007 National ToPS “B” Team.

In June of 2008, Apollo Gymnastics made a decision to end its National ToPS Program. Determined to continue his success with the ToPS program and hoping to coach a gymnast in a future Olympic game, Juan Carlos accepted a Head Coach position with Gymnastics World in Woodbridge, VA. That year Leah Eller placed on the National ToPS “B” Team and in 2009 Elena Martinez gained a coveted spot on the 2009 National ToPS “A” Team; Leah Eller received an invite to join the 2009 National ToPS “B” Team training camp.


Resume WizardJuan Carlos’ gymnasts have won numerous State Championships throughout the last six years. In 2009 his Level 5 Team was awarded the 2009 Level 5 Team Virginia State Champion award along with individual results from Alexis Hooks a 2009 Virginia All-Around, Uneven Bar and Vault Champion, age 7; Adriana Yenchochic a 2009 Virginia Balance Beam Champion, age 7; Karis Baik a 2009 Virginia Uneven Bar Champion, age 9 ¾; Alexa Apperson a 2009 Virginia Uneven Bar Champion, age 9; Leah Eller a 2009 Virginia State Champion on Vault and Balance Beam, age 9. This is an amazing feat considering his whole gymnastics team consists of 15 girls, levels 4-10.
